In Memory of Norm Schureman...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whAew2BdlqE

(Here is a facebook page dedicated to Norm, where his students are posting their old class work from his classes.)

In my memories from Art Center, Norm Schureman’s class was pretty much the Entertainment Design department for us. He was a great friend and mentor that has always pushed us to dream big and work hard to achieve it.

Many of the best times I had at Art Center are from Norm’s classes and I have made many life long friends there along the way.

At the time, there was no official Entertainment Design Department and Norm’s class was the main gathering place for us budding entertainment designers.

It was a great environment where illustrators, product and trans students can all meet up and learn from each other. There was always a good friendly competition between majors and an excitement whenever we are going into his class for the first day. (we never know what new crazy project he is going to pitch at us each term).

Norm is the type of teacher that you just want to work hard for. He has high standards and you want to give him your all to match the awesome works that has came out from his classes.

The best thing he taught us was not the drawing skills, but the love to push and have fun with our designs and work hard to make it become a reality. Due to this, his student’s entertainment design work is always filled with originality and makes everything seem possible in his class.

He will be greatly missed and it is hard to put in words the sadness I feel. Art Center will not be the same place without him.

Rest in Peace Norm and thanks for all the inspiration and kindness you have given us who are lucky enough to be in your class.

Kevin

PS - There is a facebook page where Norm's family, students and friends are sharing their pictures, videos and stories they have with him. Please contribute if you have any images from his past or classes at Art Center:
